# Cloud Sites Backup and Restore

Safeguarding your data on Cloud Sites is a critical, hands-on responsibility. Because the platform does not create system backups by default, **you must configure these settings yourself** to prevent data loss. This collection of guides empowers you to build a complete safety net. You will learn how to **[enable scheduled backups](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/cloud-sites/backup-and-restore/enable-cloud-sites-backups/)**, manage your storage plans, and perform **manual exports** via SFTP. We also cover emergency recovery methods, including how to **restore databases** and retrieve files from **FTP Snapshots**.

Cloud Sites Does Not Automatically Backup Your Data

Cloud Sites does not take automatic backups of your content by default. **You must enable this feature manually.** We strongly recommend you configure the backup options listed below or perform **[regular manual backups via FTP/SFTP](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/cloud-sites/backup-and-restore/cloud-sites-manual-backup-with-ftp-sftp/)**.
