# Restoring Your Cloud VPS From a Backup

You’ve learned about the importance of backups and how to[ Create a Backup ](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/hosting-services/cloud-vps/cloud-vps-backups/creating-a-backup-of-your-cloud-vps/) of your Cloud server, next see how to restore from a backup. Restoring your [VPS cloud server](https://www.liquidweb.com/vps-hosting/cloud-vps/) from a backup will preserve data and functionality from the date you choose.

### **Warning:**
---
Restoring from a backup or an image you created is different than restoring from a pre-made image provided by Liquid Web. Restoring from a pre-made image provided by Liquid Web will clear all the data and start your server from scratch with no information saved. If you feel you need to re-image your server, see our article on [Restoring a Cloud VPS from an Image](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/hosting-services/cloud-vps/restoring-a-cloud-vps-from-an-image/).
