# How to Create a Global Private Fabric (Private Network)

## Introduction

To link your servers on a single, secure network, your first step is to create a Global Private Fabric (GPF). Think of this as creating the empty, private network itself. This guide will show you how to create a new fabric from your **[portal.nexcess.com](https://portal.nexcess.com/)** portal. After you create it, you will be ready for the next step: adding your servers.

---

## Prerequisites

- A Liquid Web account.

---

## Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow the steps below to create a Global Private Fabric in your portal.nexcess.com account.

1. Log into your **[portal.nexcess.com](https://portal.nexcess.com/)** account with your **[username and password](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/portal/account/account-security/account-recovery/),** or **[sign in with Google SSO](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/portal/account/log-into-liquid-web-using-google-sso/).**
2. Go to the left side navigation and expand the **Network** menu. Click on **Global Private Fabric**.
3. On the **Global Private Fabric** page, click **Create new fabric** to begin.
4. In the modal presented, **enter a unique name** for the new fabric (each account can utilize up to three different fabrics).
5. **Enter** a description for the fabric.
6. **Choose** whether or not to automatically add new eligible servers to this fabric.

Understanding the ‘Auto-Add’ Option

Only newly deployed servers are auto added to a Global Private Fabric. Servers that are already on the account when the fabric is created should be manually attached to the fabric if desired.

7. Click **Create Fabric** to create the new GPF on your account.

---

## Next Steps

You have successfully created the fabric, which is the “container” for your private network. Your next step is to **add your servers** to it. You can follow our guide to **[Add Servers to a Global Private Fabric](https://www.google.com/search?q=httpsax-Server-to-Global-Private-Fabric/)** to complete the process.

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

**I created the fabric, but none of my servers are in it. Is it working?**Yes. Creating the fabric is just the first step—think of it as building the empty network. Your servers will not be added automatically (see the next question). Your next step is to [manually add your existing servers](https://www.google.com/search?q=link-to-add-servers-article) to the fabric.

**I checked “auto-add,” but my existing servers weren’t added. Why?**The “auto-add” feature only applies to **new servers** that you deploy *after* you create the fabric. You must **manually add** all of your existing servers to the fabric after you create it.

****How many Global Private Fabrics can I create?****You can create and manage up to **three** different fabrics per account. This allows you to create separate private networks for different environments (like “Production,” “Staging,” or “Backups”).

******Does it cost anything to create a GPF?******No. The Global Private Fabric is a feature included with your eligible Liquid Web servers to help you unify and secure your infrastructure.
