# Getting Started with AlmaLinux

While CentOS has been a very popular Linux operating system for hosting companies, recent changes in the development approach mean that CentOS Linux will soon be [End of Life (EOL)](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/performance/upgrades/what-does-end-of-life-eol-mean-for-me/) in favor of the [CentOS Stream](https://www.centos.org/) approach. In response to this change, a new non-profit development community has issued and is supporting [AlmaLinux](https://almalinux.org/).

AlmaLinux is focused on long-term stability and is 1:1 binary compatible with RHEL and pre-Stream CentOS. If you’re looking for a managed hosting solution that is compatible with cPanel/WHM, Plesk, or applications developed for the [LAMP Stack](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/server-administration/linux/what-is-the-lamp-stack/), AlmaLinux is an excellent choice.
