# Resizing Services in the Nexcess Client Portal

## Introduction

One of the primary advantages of the Nexcess Cloud is the ability to scale resources instantly to match your website’s traffic demands. Whether you are running a high-volume **Managed Magento** store, a content-heavy **Managed WordPress** site, or a bustling **Managed WooCommerce** shop, you are never locked into a static plan.

You can upgrade your server to handle seasonal traffic spikes or adjust your feature sets with just a few clicks. This guide walks you through the process of resizing your plan directly from your **[sites-portal.liquidweb.com](https://sites-portal.liquidweb.com)** Client Portal.

---

## Prerequisites

- A [Nexcess Client Portal](https://sites-portal.liquidweb.com/) account.
- A Managed Magento, Managed WordPress, or Managed WooCommerce plan.
- A valid credit card on file (for pro-rated billing adjustments).

Scaling Your Magento Business

Congratulations on your growth! If you are moving from a Magento Medium to a Magento Large plan, this upgrade requires a migration to a dedicated environment. Don’t worry, our **[Migration team is here to handle the data transfer for you](https://docs.nexcess.com/sites-stores/migrations/nexcess/migration-process/)**.

For upgrades from **Magento Large** to **Extra Large (XL)** or higher, you can resize your server normally without any migration steps.

## Step-by-Step Instructions

### Accessing the Resize Menu

1. **Log in** to your **[sites-portal.liquidweb.com](http://sites-portal.liquidweb.com)** account.
2. **Click Plans** in the left-hand navigation menu.
3. **Locate** the site or plan you wish to modify. **Click** the three-dot menu (…) on the right side of the service dashboard and **select Upgrade Plan**.

### Resize Plan Resources (Hardware)

Use this option to increase your CPU, RAM, and Disk Space to handle more traffic.

1. **Locate** the Resources section and **click** the **Change** button.
2. **Review** the available plan tiers. **Click Select** on the plan that fits your project’s needs.
3. **Click** the **Resize** button to confirm the billing change and begin the hardware resize.

Looking for something specific?

**[Contact our sales team](https://www.liquidweb.com/contact-us/)** if you need a specific hardware configuration for your project.

### Adjust Plan Features

Use this option to change your software and support tier (e.g., changing from *Thrive* to *Elevate*).

1. **Locate** the Features section and **click** the **Change** button.
2. Select the Support and Feature package that fits your current needs.
3. **Click** the **Resize** button to apply the new features.

### Legacy Plans

If you are on a legacy plan structure, the interface may look slightly different:

1. **Click** the **Select** button under the plan resources that fit your needs.
2. **Click** the **Upgrade** button to initialize the hardware resize.

### Downgrades

While upgrades are often instant, downgrading usually requires moving to a smaller physical disk, which cannot be automated in place.

1. Order the smaller plan you wish to move to **[from our offerings](https://www.liquidweb.com/managed-hosting-services/applications/)**.
2. **Migrate** your data to the new plan. You can do this yourself, or request assistance.
    - *Note: [Assisted migrations](https://docs.nexcess.com/sites-stores/migrations/nexcess/migration-process/) are generally available for Legacy and Elevate plans.*

### Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

**Will there be downtime when I resize my plan?**Yes. Resizing the hardware (RAM/CPU) of a server requires a reboot to apply the changes. Typically, this downtime lasts only a few minutes (often 2-5 minutes), but you should plan accordingly if you are running a high-traffic site. Adjusting “Features” usually does not require a reboot.

**Can I downgrade my plan later using the same button?**No. While upgrades can often be done “in-place,” downgrading usually involves shrinking a disk, which is risky for data integrity. To downgrade, you must purchase the smaller plan as a new service and migrate your data to it.

**Will my IP address change?**If you use the Upgrade tool to resize your existing server, your IP address will remain the same. However, if you are downgrading (which requires ordering a new plan) or moving from Magento Medium to Large (which requires a migration), your IP address will change, and you will need to update your DNS.

**How is the billing handled for a resize?**You will be charged a pro-rated amount for the difference in price between your old plan and your new plan for the remainder of the current billing cycle. On your next renewal date, you will be charged the full price of the new plan.

**Why can’t I auto-resize from Magento Medium to Magento Large?**The Magento Medium plan resides on a shared cloud infrastructure, while Magento Large and above reside on dedicated cloud environments. Because the underlying infrastructure is different, your data must be physically moved (migrated) to the new dedicated server. Support can handle this process for you.
