# How to Enable Let’s Encrypt for Managed WordPress or WooCommerce

## Introduction

[Let’s Encrypt](https://letsencrypt.org/) is an automated certificate authority (CA) that provides a free and easy way to generate the [SSL certificates](https://docs.nexcess.com/hosting/security/ssl/) required for enabling HTTPS for your website. Let’s Encrypt certificates automatically renew every 3 months.

## Prerequisites

- A Nexcess WordPress plan.
- A publicly available domain hosted with Nexcess with DNS pointing to a Nexcess IP.

## Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log in to [sites-portal.nexcess.com](https://sites-portal.nexcess.com/).
2. Select the site and then go to **Site Dashboard**.
3. Scroll down and then select the **SSL** tab in the portal.
4. Toggle the **Enable** switch and click **Enable** in the confirmation popup.
5. The SSL certificate status will show as **installed** when the Let’s Encrypt certificate has been installed for your site.

SSL Support for Pointer Domains

If you have set up [Pointer domains](https://www.liquidweb.com/help-docs/control-panel/nexcess/managed-magento/store-management/pointer-domains/) in the portal you can also enable SSL certificates for those sub-domains as well also in the **SSL** tab of the portal.
