# How to Cancel a Domain Subscription

While domain purchases are final and non-refundable, you can choose to **cancel future renewals** so your domain expires at the end of its current term.

**Cancelling a domain:**

- Prevents future renewals
- Resets your site back to its original vanity domain
- Triggers expiration in our domain partner’s system
- Disconnects your email (if you have mail service configured)

## How to Cancel a Domain

1. Log in to your StellarSites account
2. Navigate to **Sites**, then select your site
3. Go to **Domains**
4. Click the **View Subscription** button
5. Toggle on/off the **Auto Renew** radio button

## What Happens When Auto-Renewal is Turned Off

1. **After your custom domain expires**  
    Your site will only return to its original vanity domain once the custom domain subscription fully expires. Until then, the custom domain will remain connected.
2. **The domain will expire at the end of its current billing cycle**  
    There are no refunds for unused time.
3. **You can still manage DNS until expiration**  
    After expiration, DNS stops functioning. Your email stops working (if you have mail service configured)

**Why You Cannot Cancel Immediately**  
  
Domain registrars do not allow immediate cancellation or refunds. This is standard across all domain providers.
