# General Settings

This tab provides the basic settings to configure your GiveWP plugin. It is used to establish default transaction- and account-related pages on your site, as well as currency and country settings.

![the top of the Settings - General menu in GiveWP](https://docs.nexcess.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Settings-General-menu.png)## **Success Page**

Select the page where donors are sent after a successful donation. This page **must include** the `[give_receipt]` shortcode. By default, GiveWP creates a page called **Donation Confirmation** with this shortcode already in place.

You also have the option of using a different page of your choosing, and selecting it using the dropdown. Be sure to publish it first so it shows up in the dropdown.

## **Failed Donation Page**:

Choose the page donors will see if their donation fails.

GiveWP automatically creates a page called **Transaction Failed** with a basic error message. This page doesn’t need a shortcode. This page will be used for all failed donations, so keep the messaging general and relevant to any form on your site.

Like the **Success Page**, you can use another page of your choosing. If you create a custom page, publish it first so it appears in the dropdown.

## **Donor Dashboard Page:**

This is where donors can:

- View donation history
- Edit their profile
- Manage subscriptions

This page **must include** the `[donor_dashboard]` shortcode. If you’re upgrading from an older version of GiveWP, you’ll be prompted to create this page. New installs create it automatically.

When using the Donor Dashboard, legacy pages like **Donation History**, **Edit Profile**, and **Subscriptions** are disabled.

## **Base Country**

Select the country in which your site is operated from the dropdown.

## **Base State/Province:**

The states/provinces of your selected country will be populated in this dropdown. This will be the default state/province for any forms that support billing addresses. It can be left blank if you prefer not to have a default state.

## Settings for Option-Based Forms

This setting will also be visible when you have the **Option-Based Form Editor** setting enabled in the [Advanced settings](https://docs.nexcess.com/software/give/advanced/).

**Override Legacy Donation Management Pages**: Use the **Donor Dashboard** instead of the legacy donation management pages (**Donation History**, **Edit Profile**, **Subscriptions**, etc). This is enabled by default.

## Currency

The global **Currency** settings allow you to configure which currency all your donations will be received and reported in; as well as the formatting of the currency values.

## Access Control

The **Access Control** section gives advanced options for how your donors interact with sensitive data on your website.

## Sequential Ordering

The **Sequential Ordering** section has advanced options for donation IDs to be generated in a strict sequential order.

## Beta Features

The **Beta Features** section shows new features you can try out before they are integrated into the standard features of the core GiveWP plugin. This allows for customer feedback to catch bugs early-on, and use-cases that can be altered or added before the final implementation.
