# Edit Your Profile

\[wp101 video=”edit-profile”\]

In this video, the instructor explains how to edit your **WordPress user profile** and set up personal options to customize your experience and improve site security.

---

#### **1. Accessing Your Profile**

- From the Dashboard: **Users > Profile**
- Or from the top toolbar: hover over your **username** and select **Edit Profile**

---

#### **2. Personalization Options**

- **Editor Preference**: Disable the **Visual (WYSIWYG) editor** to work only in code view.
- **Code Editing**: Option to turn off **syntax highlighting** and **auto-correction** when editing code (e.g., in Customizer > Additional CSS).
- **Admin Color Scheme**: Choose from several alternate dashboard color themes.
- **Keyboard Shortcuts**: Enable shortcuts for faster **comment moderation**.
- **Toolbar Visibility**: Hide the admin toolbar when viewing the public site.

---

#### **3. User Information**

- Username: **Cannot be changed**.
- Fill out:
    - **First & Last Name**
    - **Nickname**
    - Choose how your name is displayed publicly.
- Update your **email address** and **website URL**.
- Add a **short biography** — appears at the bottom of posts or next to comments.

---

#### **4. Profile Picture (Gravatar)**

- WordPress uses **Gravatar.com** for profile images.
- Create a Gravatar account to display your avatar on your site and across all WordPress-powered sites.

---

#### **5. Security Options**

- **Passwords**: Use a strong, unique password (WordPress can generate one automatically). Weak passwords are a top cause of site hacks.
- **Log Out of Other Sessions**: End all active sessions if you lose your phone or logged in from a public computer.

---

#### **6. Saving Changes**

- After updating options, click **Update Profile** to save settings.

---

### **Key Takeaway:**

Editing your profile allows you to **personalize your WordPress experience, manage your public identity, and strengthen security**. From customizing the dashboard to adding a Gravatar image and securing your login, these settings help tailor WordPress to your needs.
