# Pattern Blocks

\[wp101 video=”pattern-blocks”\]

In this video, the instructor introduces **block patterns**—predefined groups of blocks that make it quick and easy to create attractive page layouts in WordPress.

---

#### **1. What Are Block Patterns?**

- Collections of **predefined block layouts** (e.g., buttons, galleries, columns, headers, quotes).
- Save time compared to building pages one block at a time.
- Available block patterns depend on:
    - Your **current theme**
    - Any **plugins** you have installed

---

#### **2. Accessing Block Patterns**

- Open the **Block Library**.
- Select the **Patterns tab** to view available layouts.

---

#### **3. Adding and Customizing Patterns**

- Click a block pattern to insert it into your page or post.
- You can:
    - Edit **any block** within the pattern (text, images, buttons, etc.).
    - Add **multiple patterns** to build a full layout.
    - Rearrange the group using the **arrow keys** in the toolbar.
    - Adjust alignment, copy, move, ungroup, or delete the pattern.

---

#### **4. Things to Note**

- Patterns vary depending on the **theme and plugins** you use.
- Once inserted, a block pattern becomes **independent**:
    - It is no longer connected to the original pattern.
    - Future updates to the pattern will not affect content you’ve already added.

---

### **Key Takeaway:**

Block patterns let you create **beautiful, professional layouts** in just a few clicks—perfect for speeding up design and learning how different blocks can work together.
