# WordPress Tools

\[wp101 video=”wp-tools”\]

In this video, the instructor walks through some of the built-in **WordPress tools** that help you manage content, perform imports/exports, monitor site health, and comply with privacy regulations.

---

#### **1. Categories & Tags Converter**

- Converts **categories into tags** or **tags into categories**.
- Access via the Tools menu → installs a small plugin called the converter.
- Run the importer to restructure how your content is organized.

---

#### **2. Importing Content**

- WordPress supports importing from other platforms, including:
    - Blogger
    - LiveJournal
    - Movable Type/Typepad
    - Tumblr
    - RSS feeds
    - Another WordPress installation
- To use:
    1. Install the appropriate **import tool**.
    2. Follow instructions to bring content into your site.

---

#### **3. Exporting Content**

- Export to an **XML file** for backups or migration.
- Options:
    - Export everything (posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, tags).
    - Or limit by **posts, pages, authors, categories, date range, or status**.
    - Can also export **media files** only.
- Great for **content backup or migration**, but does *not* include theme files or plugins.
- For complete backups, use a **third-party backup plugin**.

---

#### **4. Site Health Check**

- Shows critical information about your WordPress site.
- Provides **recommendations** (e.g., remove inactive plugins/themes to reduce security risks).
- Includes detailed **site configuration info**, useful when working with developers or support teams.
- You can copy all site details or view by category.

---

#### **5. Privacy & Data Management Tools**

- Helps you comply with **GDPR** and other privacy laws.
- **Export personal data**:
    - Enter a username or email to send a verification request.
    - After verification, the user can download their personal data.
- **Erase personal data**:
    - Same process, but once confirmed, all personal data is deleted from your site.

---

### **Key Takeaway:**

WordPress provides a set of powerful built-in tools for **content migration, backups, site health monitoring, and privacy compliance**. While export/import tools handle content, you’ll likely need additional plugins for **full backups** and **advanced site security**.
