# Group Leader Capabilities

This page outlines the capability changes available in **LearnDash LMS > Groups > Settings**, and explains what Group Leaders can do under each configuration.

Group management options are divided into **Basic** and **Advanced** capabilities:

- **Basic** includes the core permissions required to manage assigned groups, courses, and users.
- **Advanced** builds on Basic by adding permissions for managing content created by others, accessing private items, and performing higher-impact administrative actions.

Capability names are listed using their internal WordPress identifiers to help administrators understand exactly which permissions are applied when each option is enabled.

**Note**: The ‘Advanced’ section includes the capabilities of ‘Basic’.

## **Manage Groups**

**Basic capabilities:**

- edit\_groups
- edit\_published\_groups
- delete\_group, delete\_groups
- delete\_published\_groups
- publish\_groups

Note: We’re working on improving how new groups appear for Group Leaders. Currently, if a Group Leader creates a new group, it won’t automatically appear in their list on the main ‘Groups’ page (LearnDash > Groups). This is because the system checks if they’re assigned as a leader to that specific group, not just if they have the ‘Group Leader’ role.

Workaround: After creating a group, the Group Leader needs to manually add themselves as a leader to that new group. Then it will appear in their list.

**Advanced capabilities:**

- delete\_others\_groups
- edit\_others\_groups
- delete\_private\_groups
- edit\_private\_groups
- read\_private\_groups

## **Manage Courses**

**Basic capabilities:**

- edit\_courses
- edit\_published\_courses
- delete\_course
- delete\_courses
- delete\_published\_courses
- publish\_courses
- wpProQuiz\_show
- wpProQuiz\_add\_quiz
- wpProQuiz\_edit\_quiz
- wpProQuiz\_delete\_quiz
- wpProQuiz\_show\_statistics
- wpProQuiz\_toplist\_edit

**Advanced capabilities:**

- delete\_others\_courses
- edit\_others\_courses
- delete\_private\_courses
- edit\_private\_courses
- read\_private\_courses
- wpProQuiz\_reset\_statistics
- wpProQuiz\_import
- wpProQuiz\_export

## **Manage Users**

**Basic capabilities:**

- Edit\_users
- Group Leaders with Basic Capabilities can manage users in their group(s) and associated course(s) by navigating to: LearnDash LMS > Groups > Group Administration > List Users.
- This will display a list of users enrolled in the Group Leader’s group or courses.
- You can click on any user in the list to view their user profile.

**Advanced capabilities:**

- list\_users
- create\_users
- delete\_users

When configuring Group Leader permissions, choose the capability level that best matches the responsibilities you want to delegate. **Basic** capabilities are sufficient for most day-to-day group, course, and user management tasks, while **Advanced** capabilities provide broader administrative control and should be enabled with care.

After making changes, we recommend testing permissions with a Group Leader account to confirm the experience matches your expectations and internal workflows.
