Nutanix Project Details

Overview

Welcome to your Nexcess Nutanix Private Cloud. To ensure security and streamline your experience, your Nutanix infrastructure is securely segmented using Projects. When you access the Nutanix console via Single Sign-On (SSO) from your Nexcess Client Portal, you will land directly in your dedicated Project Details view.

A Project acts as your central visibility hub. It is a logical container that houses your Virtual Machines (VMs), networks, and storage, while defining resource quotas. This interface provides everything you need to monitor resource consumption and view your environment’s footprint without exposing top-level infrastructure settings.

Parameters / Features

The Project Details view is organized into several distinct tabs that allow you to monitor different aspects of your virtual environment. Based on your Nexcess configuration, you will interact with the following areas:

  • Dashboard: The default landing page for your project. It provides a high-level visual summary of your environment, including active alerts, recent tasks, and a quick glance at resource consumption (vCPU, memory, and storage).
  • Usage: A detailed breakdown of your project’s resource consumption over time. It displays how much of your allocated vCPU, memory, and storage quotas are currently being used by your workloads.
  • Workloads: A list of your current Virtual Machines (VMs). (Note: Active VM management actions, such as rebooting or deploying workloads, are restricted from this specific view).
  • Infrastructure: Displays the underlying compute and networking resources assigned to your project by Nexcess, including available clusters, VPCs, and subnets.
  • Policies: Where you can view rules applied to your workloads, such as security policies or resource allocation limits.

Restricted Features

To maintain strict security and platform stability, tabs for Users & Groups, Environments, and Tunnels are intentionally restricted or unavailable in the customer-facing Project view.

Examples

Navigating the Project Details view allows you to perform daily capacity monitoring and auditing tasks efficiently.

  • Checking Resource Limits: Before requesting a new database server, you click on the Usage tab. You review the charts to ensure your Project has enough available vCPU and RAM quota remaining to support an additional VM without hitting your plan’s limits.
  • Auditing Active Workloads: You want to review how many servers are currently provisioned in your environment. You navigate to the Workloads tab to view a comprehensive list of your VMs and check their current status.

Common Use Cases

  • Capacity Planning and Tracking: Using the Dashboard and Usage tabs, IT managers can track exact resource utilization to accurately predict when they will need to upgrade their Nexcess hosting plan to accommodate business growth.
  • Auditing Infrastructure Limits: Customers can use the Policies and Infrastructure tabs to verify the network subnets and resource allocation limits Nexcess has applied to their specific isolated environment.
